Cryogenic NGL Plants

High-Efficiency Hydrocarbon Recovery Systems

Cryogenic NGL plants designed to maximize recovery of ethane, propane, and heavier hydrocarbons from natural gas streams. These systems utilize low-temperature expansion and distillation to achieve high recovery efficiencies and deliver specification-grade residue gas and liquid products.

Typical configurations include turbo expander/compressor trains, demethanizers, and associated residue gas compression and refrigeration systems. Plants can be evaluated and modified for recovery targets, inlet composition, and throughput requirements, including ethane rejection or recovery modes.

Additional Information

Typical Configuration Includes:

  • Inlet separation and gas conditioning
  • Turbo expander / compressor package
  • Demethanizer column
  • Residue gas compression
  • Heat exchangers (cold box)
  • NGL handling and stabilization

Common Operating Range:

Capacity: ~10–500+ MMSCFD

Pressure: Typically 600–1,200+ psi inlet

Recovery:

  • Ethane: Rejection → 90%+ recovery (config dependent)
  • Propane+: 95–99%+ recovery achievable

Applications:

  • Rich gas processing and NGL recovery
  • Midstream gas plants
  • Integration with downstream fractionation systems
  • Ethane recovery or rejection based on market conditions

Engineering Considerations:

  • Inlet gas composition and pressure profile
  • Required recovery levels (ethane vs propane+)
  • Integration with dehydration and treating upstream
  • Downstream fractionation and product handling
  • Control strategy and operational flexibility
